Mike O’Gara, a seasoned veteran in the motorsports industry, has been appointed as the Vice President of Competition, Race Engineering at IndyCar. In this role, he will act as the senior technical authority for IndyCar, overseeing vehicle performance strategy, race engineering, and technical governance for both the IndyCar Series and Indy NXT. O’Gara will also be responsible for shaping IndyCar’s long-term technical identity, including research and development initiatives for next-generation technologies and the anticipated new car for 2028.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the opportunity, O’Gara stated, “I am thrilled to take this next step in my career and honored to join IndyCar in this critical role for the series.” With a wealth of experience spanning IndyCar, IMSA, and the FIA World Endurance Championship, O’Gara has spent the last 12 years at Chip Ganassi Racing, contributing to the team’s successes in various racing events.
IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles commended O’Gara’s extensive experience and engineering acumen, noting that his role at IndyCar will include overseeing technical rulemaking, working closely with teams and manufacturers, leading safety advancements, and serving as the central technical voice of the series.
