Pirelli has started delivering the second batch of 80 tires to MotoGP teams, marking the transition towards becoming the exclusive tire supplier for the championship next year. The initial distribution of tires took place last year to the five manufacturers involved in MotoGP, such as Ducati, Aprilia, Yamaha, Honda, and KTM. KTM was the first to roll out its 2027 prototype in Jerez during a test with Pol Espargaro in December. Subsequently, all manufacturers have been testing their new 850cc bikes along with the 2027-spec tires. As the first batch of 80 tires is nearing completion, a new batch of the same size is being distributed to the manufacturers. Moving forward, MotoGP will witness significant technical regulation changes, including a switch to 850cc engines, reduced aerodynamics, and a new sustainable fuel requirement. The most notable change will be the shift in tire suppliers from Michelin to Pirelli, marking a new era for MotoGP.
Manufacturers have actively been developing prototypes under the updated regulations, with the first batch of compounds from Pirelli arriving late last year. Honda and Yamaha have joined KTM in testing their new prototypes at various circuits, gearing up for the upcoming season. Despite no official full tests, Ducati and Aprilia have discreetly been working on their 850cc bikes, securing additional tires from Pirelli. Shakedowns and tests are being scheduled for the prototypes, with Ducati conducting a shakedown at Misano and Ducati and Aprilia planning further testing in different locations. Honda, having to adapt to changes due to a rider injury, will also participate in upcoming tests along with other manufacturers. The anticipation for the 2027 MotoGP season continues to build as teams prepare their bikes and new regulations get put to the test.
